Nose Hair Threading...Who Knew?

Has anyone out there been threaded? I have a very funny story about a threading experience I recently had, but first a brief intro on this beauty practice.

Background

Threading is an ancient method of hair removal, originating from the Indian subcontinent, it has spread to the Middle and Far East and is now gaining popularity in Western countries. Most common areas that get threaded are eyebrows, upper lip, or the entire face. {Source: Wikipedia}

Threading is a great alternative to waxing. I have found that it is cheaper than waxing and doesn't leave as much irritation or redness around the site. According to Wikipedia, threading involves a thin, twisted cotton thread that is rolled around the hairline and basically plucks the hair out of the skin. It is different from tweezing because it can take out an entire row of hair at one time which results in straighter lines. Another great reason why I prefer threading over waxing...my eyebrows look great afterwards!

If you are interested in being threaded, call around to local salons. I found a great upscale salon near my house that threads. I go about once a month (although they tell you to do it every 2 weeks...I don't have that kind of time) and get my eyebrows and upper lip done. Yes, I am telling the world that I get my lip threaded...get over it!

My Story

So I went to my salon for my normal monthly threading trip. My normal girl was off that day, so I was scheduled with a new lady. I was promised that she was great and would take good care of me. First was the eyebrows. While this lady, we will call her "Nancy", took a little longer at the brows, she did a great job. Lovely!

Next was the dreaded lip. This part hurts like a bleep! While this is done you lay back and have to put your tongue against your lip to make it tight for them. I always close my eyes, because it hurts so bad, I tear up. "Nancy" was doing her thing and working on the place directly under my nose when OWWWWW, she is suddenly threading my nose hairs! Can you imagine the pain? It happened so quickly that I couldn't stop it.

After I left, I looked at my poor nose and it was bald! I was nose hairless and in pain. Oh well, I thought, they must have been out of control-until I found out that nose hairs serve a purpose and actually help your body fight infection.

Lucky for me -they grow back, but I think of it every time I go to get threaded. Oh the horror of Nose Hair Nancy! Beware!

Anyone else have a painful and weird personal grooming experience?

Two warnings if you are thinking of threading:

- Be careful where you go. I have noticed that mall kiosks now offer this service. While I have never given this a try and they may be more than qualified, make sure you go to someone who has been formally trained.

- It hurts!!!!!! This is a con when comparing to waxing. The eyebrows are manageable, but the lip hurts a lot. It brings tears to my eyes every single time I do it. I think it hurts worse than getting a tattoo, BUT it the pain only lasts for about 1 minute. You can do it!

My New BFF

I took the plunge in June and got an IPhone. I got caught up in all of the hype about the new 3GS being rolled out and I just had to do it. As a former Blackberry lover, I was hesitant about how I would like the touch screen.

Now I am a true IPhone convert. I ended up buying the new IPhone 3GS 16GB. It took me about 1 week to get used to the touch screen.

You can go to Apple's website and read about all of the amazing features and reasons to purchase one, but my favorites about the IPhone are:

- The Apps! I love that I have Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, Fandango, Google, Local Concerts, Pandora, Linked In, Wells Fargo, E! Online, and the Houston Business Journal all at my fingertips!

- I can pay my wireless bill from my phone!

- All of my songs from my IPod are on my phone and I can download new songs and albums from my phone...if you are as music obsessed as I am, this is amazing!

- Google Reader is on my phone!!!!

-The camera and video camera are AWESOME! I have stopped using my digital camera most of the time because the phone takes such great pics.

- My absolute favorite and most useful feature so far has been the GPS. I get lost a lot and it is so nice to have a GPS on my phone. It has not failed yet at getting me to where I need to be. It is so quick and easy to use.

Hope this product review has been helpful. Have a great Saturday!

A Facial Even I Can Afford

I work in higher education so needless to say, money is normally very tight! I still like to be pampered though. I saw an ad for a new in-shower facial by Clean & Clear so I had to give it a try. I have used it twice now and LOVE it. I can really tell a difference.

It is basically just a great exfoliant, but it smells great and leaves my face feeling refreshed and looking bright. At only $6.99 (at CVS) you can't beat it.

It gets The Perfect Catch Stamp of Approval for a facial treatment.

Better as a Blonde?

What do we think of Kim Kardashian's new blonde locks? Love it or hate it? Discuss...

Look At Those Ruffles!

I know this image is tiny, but I just had to share this dress I found in the weddings section of the Houston Chronicle this weekend. It is an ivory silk ramir strapless full skirt gown by Oscar de la Renta. I love the ruffled neckline!!!! Evidently the hemline is ruffled too. Just gorg!

Book Sidebar

My great friend Ashley of Newlyweds and Nesting has a feature on her blog that I love! She has a "currently reading" sidebar. Once she has read a book, she will do a quick book review. I am adding this feature too so we can all compare notes on what books we like and even do a book swap!

This weekend I couldn't sleep so I started Vision in White by Nora Roberts. I have been dying to read this, but made myself wait until this semester was over. I came close! So far, I love it! I really love that this is one of four in Robert's new Bride Quartet series.

What are you reading right now?

Happy Reading!

Ed a Cheater?

This just in...was Ed cheating on Jillian during the taping of The Bachelorette?

Judge for yourself

Maybe that is why he picked out such a blinding ring!

Bling Overload - The Bachelorette

If you follow ABC's The Bachelorette, then you know that last week the Bachelorette, Jillian basically had three marriage proposals, but ended up picking Ed. So sweet- I give it four months. During the season finale, Mr. Neil Lane himself was there to present some stunning pieces for Ed and Kiptyon to choose from. Kiptyon chose a 3-carat princess cut-doesn't matter now since he wasn't picked.

Ed selected a more unique ring. Usually I am a fan of different, but this seems to be a little bling overload in my opinion. Shown below is the ring with pear center stone surrounded by 6 baguette-cut diamonds and 94 round-cuts.

What do you think?

Great Buy

My mom and I found a great jacket at Ann Taylor Loft this past weekend! She is so much smaller than me, but the jacket fit both of us perfectly. So we bought it and are going to share it. She wanted to have it for her trip to Italy and I just wanted it! It looks more olive green in person and is very light weight...perfect for Houston.

Here is what Shelley and I will be rocking this fall:

A Swine Flu Wedding

At the beginning of May, the Swine Flu scare was in full swing. Even people in Houston were taking it way too far-wearing masks all over town. I felt it was media hyped and blown way out of proportion, but we did get a little nervous when we started hearing about flights to Mexico being cancelled since we were honeymooning there at the end of May. We kept watch on it for awhile and then determined that we were okay to go...we did bring lots of hand sanitizer and Tamiflu just in case.

This wedding in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (where we honeymooned) made light of the Swine Flu scare! Love this fashion statement...
