One Year Baby...Let's Eat Some Frozen Cake
We followed the tradition of freezing the top tier of our wedding cake to eat on our 1 year wedding anniversary. There it sat in our freezer taking up lots of much needed space...oh, how I cursed it sometimes. I was very apprehensive about how it would taste - I've heard it's not really that great after a year, but a fun thing to do.
We had to leave really early the day of our actual anniversary, May 23, to catch a plane to Costa Rica. Rough life, I know. I figured we would eat it on May 22 so we would have time to enjoy it, but Jason was very set on eating it on the actual day. Not wanting to eat wedding cake at 5am, we stayed up until midnight before cutting the cake...this was huge for Jason who is usually fast asleep by 10pm.
We ate it and looked through wedding pics...it was so fun and the cake was AWESOME! Just to refresh you - we had white cake with pineapple filling and buttercream frosting.

Pumpkin Inspiration
I love fall so much! By this time of year I am so done with summer and the heat. Bring on comfy sweaters, lattes, fires, and snuggling up with a good book! Also, bring on the pumpkin! I have lots of cute pumpkins all over our house and my favorite new fall fixture is my pumpkin spice candle from Target...it just smells like fall. I love Starbucks' pumpkin bread and my mom's pumpkin chocolate chip cookies this time of year. I have noticed a lot of items popping up lately that have been inspired by the pumpkin. What a wonderful way to bring fall to any type of event.

Wedding Recap: The Groom's Cake
Jason gave the picture below to our cake place. He can read all about the meaning behind it to Jason HERE, but in a nutshell it's from the movie, Lonesome Dove.

Way to go Julie's Cakes! They got our bride's cake right on too! See Wedding Recap: The Bride's Cake!

And here is how it turned out!

Wedding Recap: The Bride's Cake
I was planning on waiting to write all of my wedding recaps until our professional pictures came out, but this recap I just can't wait to write. One of my favorite aspects of our planning process was the cake! I fell in love with this cake below from Jenna Bush's wedding. This was the picture that I gave to Julie's Cakes and my florist, Suzanne's Flowers to recreate:

Drumroll please......

Isn't that amazing! It truly was breathtaking. I hope everyone liked it as much as I did. It tasted great too, although I definitely did not get enough of it!

Cake? Yes, Please!

Jason and I have picked our cake! If you read my blog regularly, you know how excited I was to go cake tasting and choose our yummy cakes. I have a sweet tooth, what can I say? I was a little bummed because Jason just doesn't share my cake excitement. He isn't a very big sweets guy and really isn't a big cake guy. But, he loves me and knows how excited I was, so he played along and went with me to taste cakes.
Our cake consultant, brought us 5 different types of cakes with different icings: classic bridal white, chocolate, Italian creme, red velvet, and strawberry. We tried all of them, but had our faves.
I picked...drumroll please...bridal white cake of course! With classic butter cream frosting and a fruit filling.
On to the groom's cake. You all know how Jason wants it designed based on his earlier Groom's Cake post, but I didn't know which flavor he would pick. I just figured he would do chocolate, not because he likes it so much, but because it is the groom's cake "norm." Jason said, "I guess the Italian creme..it was pretty good." I was like, "are you sure, you don't seem that jazzed about it."
And then I looked down at the cake plate and Jason had eaten the entire piece of red velvet cake! I only had a little bite and he downed the rest of it! I said, babe, I think we know what cake you should order! He agreed, so red velvet for J!!!
I think those flavors will be the perfect pair...just like us.
Can anyone guess what type of fruit filling I picked?

Happy Valentine's Day...and 97 Days until our Wedding!

I hope everyone has a wonderful Valentine's Day! Guess what Jason and I are going to do today...cake tasting! We already know where we are getting our cakes, we just now get to taste and determine exactly what we want. I am soooo excited!
Other than that, we are doing a very low-key V-Day. Real life has kicked in and we are dealing with lots of financial issues all at once-Tucker had to have surgery and lots of drugs this past week, Jason's car needs a new alternator, and we are trying to save for the wedding. I am not complaining-I just get so sick of the wedding blogs that don't talk about the real life aspect of planning a wedding. This is real life!
Can you believe that the wedding is 97 days away-I have got to step up the wedding diet...sorry I haven't posted on that lately, but I have lost a total of 7 pounds. I have reached a plateau and eating cake sure won't help. Another day...
Back to the point, happy love day from Jason, Tucker and me. Muahh!

Sprinkle Me With Happiness!
I love Sprinkles Cupcakes and I just discovered that Houston is getting one in spring 2009. I love when couples decide to forego a traditional wedding cake for a cupcake tower like below:

Look how classy the one below looks. If you aren't daring enough to have a cupcake tower-cake, think about incorporating them at a shower or rehearsal dinner!

But, I didn't think about giving these singles as a favor. Sprinkles has tons of sugar toppings you can choose from, but don't you just love the little engagement ring below? They also have hearts, flowers, letters, and even a longhorn for you Texas fans!

Needing a Color Scheme...
But I just haven't figured it out yet. The four color palettes that I am thinking are blues, greens, cremes, and browns. I am off work and school for 3 whole weeks...yeah, yeah, there is that thing called the holidays thrown in there, but this next week is wedding planning time! I also have to do ALL of my Christmas shopping so it's going to be busy.

Mom and I have already looked at a few dresses; no winners yet. More tomorrow...we are also meeting with the venue to iron out details. Today we also looked at invitations and I think those will be chosen by the end of the week.
Here are photos that I love and are providing inspiration for what Jason and I want:

Have a great week everyone! I will be posting updates this week as they come up! Please send me pics of real weddings that used similar colors!!! Jason and Tucker say hi and have a great week too!

Houston, the groom has landed!

Before I begin a much anticipated Groom's Cake post, Chelsea being the only reader with bated breath I suspect, perhaps I should enter stage right and make an introduction.
Cue Tarzan Audible, Enter GROOM....
Now that the dramatic entry and introduction is over, I stand before you the humble, yet very happy and blessed groom stalling while groping for words to describe a hunting, fishing or outdoor related cake.
Although I am an avid fisherman (depending on the day), hunter and outdoor enthusiast, I am going to take the road less travelled for my cake.
"Uva Uvam Vivendo Varia Fit." If you know what that means, you are probably:
A. One of my buddies
B. A true Texan
C. A fan of Lonesome Dove or
D. All of the Above
A. One of my buddies
B. A true Texan
C. A fan of Lonesome Dove or
D. All of the Above
So what does that mean? Quite simply it reads "A grape ripens in the presence of another grape." This epitomizes my feelings about my relationship with my soul mate and wife to be, my family and my pals. All of which I would make an epic journey on horseback from Montana to Texas for.
So how am I going to center my cake around this quote? Great question! One for which I do not have an answer to at the moment. I can tell you that my initial thought is to base it in part on the picture above - maybe incorporate the distressed wood sign and quote and kick it up a notch.
Alright, I'm sure you have grown tired of the ramblings of a mere groom to be, so I will close for now. "Catch" up with you soon...

Let Them Eat Cake!
I am taking a quick study break so I can think wedding for a few minutes!!

For those of you who know me, it is no surprise that I am really excited about the wedding cake! I love the creative outlets these desserts provide, but of course, I love to eat them! Here are a few cakes that I love all courtesy of The Knot.

Even though I love the huge cakes with lots of intricate details since Jason and I are having a small, casual wedding this cake below is more our style! So classic and preppy:

I also love, love, love this one:

Can you tell I am leaning towards blues and greens? I would love to see any other suggestions you may have! Jason is going to post soon about his groom's cake so I won't spoil what I think his vision is. Now, back to the books. All my weekend has consisted of is a group case study, group presentation, individual paper and presentation, and studying for a final tomorrow night...uggh!
