Jack's Playroom Inspiration Board

Jack's Playroom Inspiration Board

I'm currently working on creating a playroom for Jack in our upstairs family room.  Right now the room consists of a desk and chair (that rarely get used), TV and a couch/chair/end table.  Jack's toys are kept in baskets and there is a lot of space for him to play.

I'm told that originally this room was several rooms in our house, but previous owners knocked down walls and we lost our tall entryway to create this ultra large "gameroom" for what was once used as a homeschool classroom.  It's an interesting room for sure that has been the source for lots of conversations as to what we should use it for.  My goal is to make it more cozy and functional for everyone so we will want to spend more time in it.

Eventually we want to replace the couch and chair with a large, comfy sectional, but there are higher things on our financial priority list at the moment.  Ugh!

Back to Jack's playroom.  I'm looking to add neutral pieces that can be easily moved to work in other rooms as we grow as a family like when the time comes for Jack to move to a "big boy room."

My inspiration is above!  I'm going for an indoor campsite vibe.  All I have currently is a few stuffed animals, some arrow garland to add to the teepee and one wall print - ha!  Definitely a work in progress!  We plan to give Jack a teepee from Santa this year and I'm hoping to add the Ikea pieces very soon {table and chairs, easel, book shelves}.

I'm obsessed with that Raccoon pillow from Land of Nod.  Especially since we have raccoons running around in our backyard and Jack likes to say rakoo.  Land of Nod also has the cutest S'Mores Campfire Set and Sleeping Bag that would look great with the look I'm aiming for.

I would also love to have this image by Mommas Gonna Snap printed as a large canvas to hang on the wall.  Where is your favorite place to order your canvases from?

Jason and I had a personalized rustic sign at our wedding that I already have hung in this room and will look great with everything else I'm planning {I hope}.  Designer I am not!!!

Stay tuned for progress on this room.  Once I get the itch to do something, it's hard for me to not jump all in and get it done, but I have to wait until at least Christmas since that is when we will give Jack his teepee.  Hopefully I can collect most everything else by then too so by Jan. 1 it's done!  This will be really hard for me as I already wanted to start moving furniture last night {my husband just rolls his eyes}...

So am I missing anything?  Have you seen any pieces lately that I should checkout?

For the Home :: Seasons Board

I fell in love with the "Seasons Board" by Home Grown after reading about it on Brittany's blog, Life as the Mrs.  Check out her board below in her newborn's nursery.  It's simply beautiful.

Lately, I've been obsessed with decorating my house for the next upcoming holiday or season.  I know Jack is too young to appreciate it now, but it makes me happy and I'm sure he will get excited for this too one day.  {Another fun thing to purchase if you love decorating for each and every holiday is a one-year garland subscription from Aidie's Hideaway}.

I wasn't sure where I was even going to use the seasons board in my house...I just knew that I loved it and would find a place for it! Tammi, one of the lovely owners and artists of Homegrown was amazing to work with.  Over texts and emails she told me all of the options I had to choose from for my board, even sending me tons of sample pictures!  They will create a custom piece for you too if you have something specific in mind.

I couldn't be happier with my board and accessories! Currently I have it hung in our entryway, but there are lots of places it will work if I get the need to change things up: Jack's playroom, upstairs hallway, kitchen.  How fun would this be in a classroom too?  My step-sister who is a elementary school teacher was over this weekend and now itching for one herself!

As of last week I had the chalkboard on it with a Valentine's message and garland by Aidie's Hideaway.  Obviously, the chalkboard can stay up year-round and you can simply change the message, but how can you resist the other cute board additions?  I already put up the green shamrock for St. Patrick's Day.

The ways to use this board are endless - holiday decorations, framed pictures, monograms, initials, chalkboards, menu boards and wreaths!

Ready to get your hands on one?  If you are in Houston, Silly Silly Girls is now carrying these boards and accessories in their store {among a thousand other cute items}.

If you are not in Houston, you can contact Home Grown directly via their Facebook page or by email at tammiogletree {at} gmail {dot} com.  Also be sure and follow them on Instagram to see all of their cute new creations!

Hope you had a great weekend and have a fabulous week!

House Project: Fireplace

Before: (all before pictures are from previous homeowners):
Notice the honey colored wood flooring, wood fireplace and green tile around fireplace.  We changed the fan too, but I'll post on that later.

During:
With primer on wood and lovely green tile.  Floors not done yet!

After:
We painted the fireplace black (thanks Blas) and changed the tile to a stone with black, gray, brown and a touch of white (pictured above).  You also have a peek of the new floor stain and wall color!  Our living room is still waiting on a few finishing touches so I'll post official living room pictures later.

Making a House a Home

J & I haven't even been in our new house for a month, yet we have done so much to it!  It's been a long, but very exciting process.  We signed the contract in February, closed in April, leased back to the previous owners until May 31, started the home updates project June 1 and moved in July 5.

I've been hesitant to post before and after pics until we have shown it to friends and family first, but I'm going to get started on a few of the smaller items.  I've also been hesitant because I hate when people are showy about things they have.  I promise I'm not being that way, but just want to chronicle some all of these little projects we have completed.  We plan to be in this house for awhile so I think it will be fun to go back and read these posts years from now.

Without further ado, our new home!

Some of the projects we've done so far:

-  Refinished the wood floors
-  Removed carpet (I have a carpet phobia) in guest rooms and master closet and replaced with wood.  Now the only carpet is in the media room!
-  Painted the interior including banisters and fireplace
-  Replaced green marble around fireplace
-  New lighting in kitchen and living room
-  Replaced all gold fixtures in master bath to brushed nickel
-  Replaced master shower tub with tile
-  Replaced mirrored and gold closest doors in master to frosted glass doors
-  Removed child locks in all cabinets
-  Power washed the backyard and front walkway
-  Replaced tube lighting on backyard gazebo
-  New chairs cushions and umbrella on outdoor furniture

Phew!  It truly is a whole new house that we love, love, love.  Is it bad that I miss it when I leave to go to work?

More projects to do:

-  Finish hanging pictures and art
-  Find runner for dining room table
-  Find living room pillows that "pull the room together"
-  Finish game room (anyone have a shuffleboard table you are looking to sell)
-  Furnish our "wine room"
-  Rugs
-  Window treatments
-  Get the landscaping under control
-  Wash the windows
-  Finish decorating the media room
-  Finish trashing cleaning out our "storage" items in the garage so we can park both cars in it.

I'm sure this will be an ongoing list, but it's all I can think of at the moment.  It is so fun (and stressful for me) to make a house our home, but I would say that it already is!

Black and White Bathroom Accessories

Jason and I did our master bedroom and bathroom in black and white.  I needed new bath accessories for the counter tops like a toothbrush holder and a soap dish.  A few weeks ago Jason and I discovered the Black and White Apothecary Bath Accessories from Pottery Barn

Even though some of the pieces were a but pricey ($50 for a wastebasket!), I justified m purchases because I didn't need the whole set and I had a stash of gift cards.  I ended up with the toothbrush holders (2 since we have a double sink), soap dish and set of canisters.  I set it all up at home and love the look!

However, just last night while browsing Bed Bath & Beyond, I noticed their version, the Toulouse Bain Bath Ensemble.  The look and quality are both very similar.  The main difference in the two sets is that the BBB version does not have the three canisters.  They do however have an aluminum basket (not pictured) that I bought to hold my products that I like to keep out on counter like hairsprays and lotions).  It looks wonderful next to the Pottery Barn pieces.  You can't even tell the difference!

Chevron

Chevron is huge right now.  I love it and am looking for ways to incorporate it into my home.  You can definitely go overboard with all that's out there right now, but in moderation, this is such a classic, but fun print.

Happy Fall

Photo from Loves of Life

It's officially time for all things fall.  Even though the weather doesn't feel that way in Houston, Starbucks has their pumpkin spice lattes out so in my eyes, it's fall!

Jason and I plan to decorate the house this weekend, but I couldn't wait to get my pumpkin candle going and display this awesome Fall Bucket List I found at Katie's Blog, Loves of Life.  Isn't this a great idea!  Go download it HERE, then put in an 8x10 frame, and check your items off as you complete them with a dry erarse marker.

At our house!

Time for a Bargain

(Pun intended)

I fell in love with this pocketwatch clock at Pottery Barn, but did not want to pay the $59.00 price tag.  Jason and I were even in the store with it in our hands, but I just couldn't do it.

One week later we were browsing the aisles of Marshall's Home Goods and what did we find...

An amazing PB knockoff for only $19.00!  Yes, please!
