Weekend & Halloween Recap: Candy, Costumes...Oh and a Broken Leg!

Happy Tuesday everyone!  I hope you had a great weekend and Happy Halloween.  We certainly did until around 11pm on Friday night when Jack woke up screaming.  More on that in a minute...

FRIDAY

After work on Friday Jason and I both rushed home to get ready for trick-or-treaters!  We made "Mummy Dogs" for an early dinner and got Jack and Tucker dressed.  We hit a few houses with Jack so he could get the "trick-or-treating" experience and then headed home to pass out candy.

Jack had a minor spill on our bottom stair with myself, Jason and my mom standing right there...I was actually sitting on the bottom stair with him!  He just got a little tripped up when scooting down and we suspect twisted his ankle.  At the time we didn't think much of it.  He cried, but was also very tired from a short nap that day so we bathed him and put him to bed.

We got through the night of trick-or-treaters, Tucker was annoyed with the constant doorbell, but Jack slept for hours.  Around 11pm he woke up screaming and could not be consoled.  We thought his tummy was hurting him by the way he was moving and acting.  We gave him Tylenol just in case which didn't seem to do much.  We were up with him until 3am when he finally passed out while I was rocking him.

SATURDAY

On Saturday morning, still thinking Jack was up last night because of a stomach ache, we took it easy getting breakfast done, watching cartoons in bed and playing quietly at home.

Jack was a little fussy every now and then, but mostly seemed better.  It wasn't until after he ate lunch that I noticed he would not put weight on his right leg.  It had me worried so I called his pediatrician's on-call doctor who thought it might be a viral infection in his hip and told me to visit Urgent Care just to be safe.  He told me they would likely do x-rays, however his little slip on the stairs likely was nothing.

We reported to urgent care around 2pm and were seen fairly quickly (I was prepared for a LONG wait) since it is first come first serve.  The doctor examined him and wanted to do x-rays immediately to rule that out before moving forward with lab work.  And cue the long wait...

Their x-ray machine wasn't sending the images to the radiologist properly so we waited a long time to see if it would get fixed.

Around 5pm we headed to the ER for x-rays and blood work...and more waiting!  We waited an hour for the lab work and an hour for the x-rays.

I can't say enough how much of a trooper Jack was.  Luckily I brought tons of snacks and the iPad so we could watch Mickey and Peppa Pig.  I think he handled the waiting better than Jason and I did.

We finally got home around 7:30, greeted our house guests who had arrived earlier that day, had dinner and got Jack bathed and to bed.  Around 9pm Jack was asleep and the Urgent Care doctor called me after reviewing all the results and said we needed to come in immediately to get his leg in a splint because it was a fracture..

WHAT!

No wonder Jack has been in pain all day.  I did not want to wake him up, but I also didn't want it to get worse or have another bad night so we pulled him out of bed and rushed to the clinic where we WAITED...

He finally got a great splint on his leg and was so brave during the whole thing.  Off to bed we all went, although I didn't get much sleep worrying!

SUNDAY

Jack rested fairly well on Saturday night, but I wanted him to have a very quiet day to keep his leg still.  We opted out of Church and went for a walk at Enchanted Gardens, a nursery near our house that Jason's mom always likes to visit when she is in town.  Jack enjoyed the fresh air and being carted around in his wagon.

Jason, his mother and sister and Jack all took it easy and watched the Texans game/napped while I went to the grocery store and got dinner ready.  I put Jason on the grill and we had a good meal finally.

Jack slept well again only waking up crying once around 11pm.  A quick story and rock from mama did the trick and we went back to sleep.  I tried to blog Sunday evening, but my brain and body were both fried.

MONDAY

I took the day off since the plan was to get Jack into see an orthopedic specialist and get a cast.  First thing Monday morning I was calling offices researching the best doctor for Jack.  We got him into our first choice, that day, but not until 4:30.

We still had house guests and unfortunately, Jason woke up sick so he stayed in bed most of the day!  Can't we catch a break?!?!

We headed out the door for Jack's appointment early just so we could do more...waiting!  It is crazy how much waiting we did over the weekend.  Once again Jack was a model patient.  Once we finally saw the doctor Jack sat perfectly still while they put the cast on.  He will be in it for 3 weeks and the doctor isn't worried about long-term effects since the bone isn't displaced.  It might even end up stronger than ever!  It truly was a freak accident that although I feel guilty and terrible, know deep down that these things happen.  You can't put them in a protective bubble forever.

Jack now has a cool blue cast from below his knee down.  We were sweatin' it for a minute when the office could only find pink, purple or American Flag casts.  Not really the look I had envisioned for my handsome boy.

Both Jason and I are back to work today (Tuesday) and Jack is at home recovering with his nanny who was so worried about him over the weekend.  He is definitely getting spoiled with lots of new toys to distract him from having limited mobility and tons of Peppa Pig and Bubble Guppies.  He is getting around much better with the cast and is back to crawling and butt-scooting like a champ!

Thank you for all of your sweet comments on Instagram over the weekend!  It certainly made being exhausted and sitting in the waiting room much more tolerable.  Muah!!!

Five on Friday :: Happy Halloween & Happenings in Houston

ONE

Happy Halloween!!!  I hope you have a wonderful day eating lots of candy and hopefully getting more treats than tricks.  We will be eating an early dinner of Mummy Dogs before passing out candy and walking Jack around the street.

I can't believe this was Jack last year...he has grown so much!

TWO

It wouldn't be Halloween without a montage of my sweet Tucker in his Halloween costumes. I totally dropped the ball on his costume this year.  I planned to find a fish for him to wear since Jack is a Fisherman.  He will be costumeless this year unless I run out on my lunchbreak and find something.

Let me know if there is a place I should hit!

2013
2007 - 2012
I think Tucker is thrilled I dropped the ball!

THREE

I'm obsessed with Benefit's Dallas.  I've been using it as a blush the past week and I think it is just perfect for fall. Thank you Kristina of Pretty, Shiny Sparkly for the recommendation! Your suggestions are always spot on! She is hands down my favorite beauty blogger and even better, she is lives in Houston too! In case you need another reason to follow her, besides being an amazing beauty blogger, she is a full-time physician!

FOUR

My dear friend Allison of Swish Productions is organizing a Houston Holiday Artisan Market on November 15 from 9am-3pm.  Her shop will be selling leggings, scarves, and other cute accessories as well as her jewelry hangers that are my absolute fave.  Definitely plan to attend if you are free that day!  There will be tons of great shops and local food trucks!

FIVE

If you are a blogger, there are several conferences coming up in Texas!  This past week a brand new conference was announced - The Thrive Conference will be held in The Woodlands, just north of Houston, on February 27-28.  Tickets go on sale November 10.  Only 100 tickets available - I sure hope I can snag one...especially since I already reserved a hotel room and a roomie!

Texas Style Council "Camp" Conference will be held March 20-22.  Normally this wouldn't be my scene since I'm not a style blogger, but I LOVE that this year it's all about getting back to blogging basics and supporting women.  It's being held at a campsite so people will be relaxed and casual and really focused on creating blog content not "being seen."  Tickets go on sale for this TOMORROW {Nov. 1} and there are only 275 tix available so act fast if you think you want to attend.

Happy Halloween,
Chels

Halloween Pajama Party 2014!

Today I'm linking up with Fancy Ashley, Darci, Natasha & Ashley for a Halloween Pajama Party!

I realized that last year I went overboard on the Halloween PJ's and then again on the Christmas PJ's.  I justified it by saying that it was just a first year thing - I will keep it under control after all of his "first" holidays.  Yeah right!

I've done it again and gone overboard, but we just really love Halloween in our house.  And pajamas.  And themes.

Our favorite pajamas this year are from Two Magnolia Lane with Jack's name on the front.  Contact Two Magnolia Lane if you want the Christmas version of these!

These Boo! PJ's from Old Navy are another favorite.  Were they totally necessary since they are so similar to the ones above?  Heck no!  But they were sent all the way from Tyler to us so we had to accept!

I'm also loving these fun bat ones from Hanna Anderson

And what Halloween is complete without some Skeleton Pajamas?

2013 - 2014

I can't believe my 18 month old is wearing all 2T pajamas now!
Happy Halloween!!!

Jack's First Halloween

Here are a few more pictures from Jack's first Halloween!  A lot of the pictures are just of us sitting around waiting for the trick-or-treaters to come.  Our neighborhood Facebook page kept reporting that kids were starting around 5:30 so we waited...and waited...and finally got some around 7pm.

And yes, Jason made a fire even though it was so hot hotside...he said it added to the spookiness.  He loves Halloween.

My sweet elephant was so tired from all of the picture taking

Love that little tail!

Mimi got Jack a giant Jellycat Elephant that is just about his size

--ONE--

I hope you had a wonderful Halloween!  The horrible weather cleared up by trick-or-treating time for us and we had lots of fun passing out candy to the sweet kiddos.  My little lion and elephant were good sports for lots of picture taking.  I had to document their first Halloween together!

I can't wait for next year when we can take Jack trick-or-treating!

--TWO--

I picked up not one, not two, but THREE Chicco Nextfit Convertible Carseats from Baby's 1st this week.  One for me, Jason and "Mimi" (my mom).  The man helping me load my car was majorly impressed by me because he thought I had triplets.  Then I told him no, it's just one kid, but three cars.  Then he just thought I was spoiled.

I'm loving my new reversible tie-on car bag that I purchased a few weeks ago on Jane.com (formerly VeryJane.com).  These come in 3 colors.  I think my gray one looks nice in my Honda CRV if I do say so myself.  I plan to use mine for baby items that I want to keep stocked in the car.  My favorite thing about the bag besides it looking great, is that it is so soft and lightweight, it won't hurt Jack if it went flying.  The bag is by Monkey Stitches Studio who primarily sells through Jane.comhttp://jane.com/, and I just read that their next sale on these bags will be on November 7

The Vintage Pearl is having a grand opening tomorrow of their new Sugar Land store in Town Square.  I have a crazy busy day tomorrow, but am going to try and swing by in the afternoon.  Hope to see you there!  If you aren't local, check out their beautiful pieces online.  I'm dying for the gold dainty names necklace.

--FIVE--

After a day like yesterday I could really use a pair of Hunters!  If they are good enough for Princess Kate, they are good enough for me!  Putting on Christmas list now...

Happy Halloween!

We hope you have a wonderful {and safe} Halloween!  I'm so excited to be celebrating Jack's very first Halloween.  And of course I can't wait to pass out candy to all of the sweet trick-or-treaters tonight...one for me, one for you!  I'm in big trouble though this year because it's supposed to be very bad weather and I already bought 5 huge bags of chocolate.  If you brave the weather and come to my house you might get way more than a handful!

What are your plans?

Studio Ainsley captured these adorable images of my little elephant last weekend at their annual Costumed Cuties event.  Be sure and follow their Facebook page to be in the know about other fun upcoming events they are hosting.

Boo!

...and so done!

Dog Costume Fun

I have way too much fun dressing Tucker up for Hallowen each year. He hates it. I've been doing it every year since 2007and this year will be no exception! I will post pics of this year's costume on Friday.

I usually purchase his costumes from Target.  They are normally between $10-$15 and most years I waited until the day of to purchase so I got them on sale.  If you are creative you can certainly make your own.  I've seen some really creative ideas on Pinterest.

Are you dressing up your fur babies this year?

2008 - Dorothy - Halloween Spirit Store
2009 - Bumble Bee - Target

Halloween Pajama Party!

I'm linking up today with Darcy from The Good Life Blog and Meredith from The Tichenor Family Blog for a Halloween Pajama Party!

I've gone way overboard buying Jack Halloween outfits and PJ's.  I keep justifying it since it's his first Halloween!  Oh my goodness what will Christmas be like?  Regardless, we love Halloween in our family so it's been fun to dress Jack up and snap some pictures!

Carter's Skeleton PJ's - Jack about to read the book "Room on the Broom" from Baby G!
