The Ick Heard Round the Feminist World

Ick!  Not to get all feminist on my blogging peeps (even though I was a women's studies minor in college), but I am definitley disgusted with jewelry designer Simon G for their current marketing campaign.

Each ad has a picture of a knock-out, gorgeous ring with a disgusting tag line...each ad has it's own...

"I'm (the ring) much cheaper than a therapist"

"Marriage is a compromise.  But you can postpone that until after the wedding."

"Virtually eliminates cheating, since you'll never want to take it off"

And in case your engagement ring wasn't good enough to keep you from cheating...  "Make sure he sees what you did with the settlement"

And the ick heard round the feminist world:

"You can tell a lot about a woman by looking a her hand"  [Ad below]

I can tell you with just one finger what I'm all about Simon G...and it's not my ring finger.

I must say that even though the feminist in me hates these superficial ads, the marketer in my says, way to go Simon G...you are getting lots of buzz from your little ads and as they say, there is no such thing as bad publicity!

Living Guilt Free

I am so excited to announce that I am officially done with school!  I finally earned my MBA after 2 years!!!  It actually flew by and I could not have done it without the support of my husband, family, my boss Sarah, and partner in crime/fellow graduate, Ashley!  The ceremony is Saturday, but we are DONE.

Now I can watch TV or read a book without that feeling of guilt sitting on my shoulders that I should be doing homework!

Put a "P" on It

I already have a ring on it, so now I want everything to have a P on it.  I guess since I am super excited to really "own" my new last name, I am LOVING anything for the home monogrammed with a P.  We now have a monogrammed welcome mat, stationary and hand towels.  My new want is the Printer's Letter Stand from Anthropologie, $23.00.  Cute right?  You can pick them up at any Anthrpologie store or online HERE

Homework update:  Finished the boring book, Leadership is an Art  (book review not coming soon!)today in the car.  Just one more page to write of this paper...decided to blog instead of finish it.  Tomorrow-persuasive speech that I am giving Monday night.

Book Review: Fall to Pieces

I just finished Fall to Pieces: A Memoir of Drugs, Rock'n'Roll and Mental Illness by Mary Forsberg Weiland.

(I just want to put out that I am supposed to be finishing and writing and paper on the boring book,  Leadership is an Art, but here I am instead, writing this).

I was drawn to read this book because of the author.  Mary Forsberg Weiland is the ex-wife of Scott Weiland, the lead singer of Stone Temple Piliots and Velvet Revolver.  I have been a fan of Scott and his music for years...first falling in love with "Interstate Love Song" in junior high.  For those of you who don't know, besides being a music genius, Scott is also a drug addict.  Throughout his career, he has been in and out of jail, rehab and many band breakups and reunions.  I have only had the pleasure of seeing him in concert once (with STP), but it easily is one of the most memorable...epic even.

Occasioanlly in the news, I would hear abour his girlfriend, later turned wife entering rehab, the beautiful model and mother of his two children.  Unfortunatly, her modeling career doesn't seem to be her claim to fame.  She received far more headlines from the night she had a mental breakdown and torched $80,000 worth of her husband's clothes on their driveway of thier California home.

Almost three years later, Mary releases this book to tell her story, about living with drug addiction and bipolar disorder, her realtionship wtih Scott and everything in between.  A sad book with an uplifing message.  I highly recommend this book to anyone who has ever dealt with addiction, mental illness, or any fans of the music.  I could not put this book down.  I woke up way too early this morning and could not go back to sleep.  Instead I laid there for an hour thinking about the book until I got up to finish it.

Thank you for sharing your life with the world Mary!

Bad Blogger of the Year

Goes to me!  I know, I haven't been blogging lately.  So glad to be back!  So, what have I been up to?  The usual: work, school, etc.  Nothing drastic has happened or anything, I just feel like I haven't had a spare minute and when I do, blogging is the last thing on my mind.

I now just have 2 more weeks left of graduate school!!!  I can't get too excited yet because I have a black cloud of papers and presentations crammed in the next 2 weeks, but I will graduate on December 12.  Not to toot my own horn, but I am really proud of myself.  It is really hard to work full time and get an MBA completed in 2 years.  Not to mention that during that time, Jason and I got engaged, planned a wedding, got married and went on a honeymoon!

Besides school, work has been crazy!  I have been recruiting out of town and around Houston, planning and hosting events, and have even added new roles to my position like working with the school's Greek life.

My stepsister got married in Oklahoma last weekend (that post coming soon), Jason and I have been working on the house, and we try to get some rest in between everything else.

Jason has been working harder than ever wtih the resort.  He gets up at 4am almost every morning to work, leaves the house around 6am and then doesn't get home until about 7pm...sometimes working when he gets home!

No one can accuse us of being lazy!  We also celebrated our 1-year engagement anniversary on November 8.  We were too busy to actually celebrate, but we pretty much celebrate everyday that we have together.  Right now we are in Jason's hometown for Thanksgiving-coming home tomorrow.

We hope everyone has many things to be thankful for this year.  We certainly do!  We are so thankful for our amazing families, great friends, jobs, and of course, Tucker and each other.  So happy to be back to the blog.

Love,
Chelsea

Bowsession

I am currently OBSESSED with BOWS!!!  And apparently, so are designers so it's a win, win.  Throw a bow on a sweater, earring, headband, bracelet...you get the idea...and I will rock it!

Here are some great examples (sorry, I don't have links, I pulled these pics months ago, and then went MIA from the blogosphere).  BTW, Happy Thanksgiving!

From Etsy.  I bought this necklace for Ashley's birthday and it is so cute on her!

Well, my husband's resort!  Jason works in Sales and Marketing for La Torretta Del Lago Resort and Spa in Conroe, TX.  He was the manager on duty a few weekends ago so I was lucky enough to get to tag along and stay at the resort.  It is soooo gorgeous and wonderful!  See for yourself...

Italian Wedding!

My mom and step-dad recently took a trip to Italy!  They took a lot of gorgeous pictures including my mother sneaking on a vineyard in the mud to pick a grape, but my favorite is a couple that they spotted coming out of a church in Rome.  Knowing how much I love weddings, my mom asked if she could take their picture.  Thanks mom!

Congratulations Italian couple...you look absolutley stunning!

Look at that veil...bellissimo!

Pumpkin Inspiration

I love fall so much!  By this time of year I am so done with summer and the heat.  Bring on comfy sweaters, lattes, fires, and snuggling up with a good book!  Also, bring on the pumpkin!  I have lots of cute pumpkins all over our house and my favorite new fall fixture is my pumpkin spice candle from Target...it just smells like fall.  I love Starbucks' pumpkin bread and my mom's pumpkin chocolate chip cookies this time of year.  I have noticed a lot of items popping up lately that have been inspired by the pumpkin.  What a wonderful way to bring fall to any type of event.

Kristen & Justin's Engagement Pics

I am so excited to share these engagement pictures with you today.  Kristen is one of my sorority sisters from college.  She and her fiance, Justin are getting married in Dallas, TX in March 2010.  Shaun Menary did their engagement pictures at the W Hotel in Dallas (where their reception will be held)!  These pictures are simply stunning and my favorite e-pics that I have seen lately.  Congratulations Kristen and Justin!
