Stitch Fix Review #6 :: Maternity Fix

I recently received my 6th Stitch Fix Box in the mail.  I wanted to try one more "maternity fix" for this pregnancy to get me through the last trimester!  I received the box on the first day of my third trimester and was excited to see what was included.  I asked for maternity items that might be good for a maternity photo session I have coming up next month.  I specifically asked for a maxi dress, cute tops and anything that would be good for post-partum and nursing.

I apologize for the terrible photos, lighting and not showing myself in most of the pieces...it was late at night by the time I could try everything on, I looked terrible and just wasn't feeling it!  #tiredworkingpregnanttoddlermomproblems

What is Stitch Fix?

For those of you who aren't familiar with Stitch Fix, it is a styling service that sends you 5 pieces of clothing and/or accessories pulled specifically for you. Once you receive the items you can try on, take pictures and see how they will work into your wardrobe - all in the comfort of your own home.  You have three days to decide to keep the items or send them back.  If you keep all five items you will receive 20% off the entire purchase.  If you send all 5 items back you lose your $20 stylist fee that would have been applied to your purchase.  Everyone fills out a style and fit questionnaire, but you can be as picky or open as you want in your communications to your stylist.  Stitch Fix recently launched both Maternity and Petite options!

So what did I receive and keep...

Panama Colorblock Multistrand Necklace, $38

I didn't hate this necklace at all, but just know that I don't need it and would choose other items I already own before this one so it was an easy pass.  I'm really trying to declutter what I own, not add to it!  I think for future boxes, I will say no jewelry since this really isn't what I want in my boxes.

Verdict:  Pass

LA Made Maternity Cap Sleeve Dress, $68 {See photo above}

Although I didn't request this dress specifically, I saw it on another blogger and hoped I would receive it or something like it.  This dress is not only great for pregnancy, but is nursing-friendly with a flap over the bust that can be lifted when nursing.  I always love a little black dress, but this was VERY form-fitting and therefore did not look good with my big bump and large booty.  I don't even think a larger size would have worked.

Verdict: Pass

Full Moon Scoop Neck Maternity Tunic, $58

This top had potential.  I told the stylist I love tunics and I think it is a great transitional piece from summer to fall, however it just didn't fit right.  The size I was given worked, but it was just too flowy for me.  It actually looked like I was wearing a bathing suit cover-up.

Verdict:  Pass

Market & Spruce Chevron Maxi Dress, $88

I specifically requested a maternity maxi dress or skirt so I knew my stylist was listening when I pulled this out of the box.  Of everything I received, this was my favorite and it fit the best, however it still just missed the mark.  This dress was super comfortable and although it did fit me in most places, it was a little snug in the booty area {see a recurring theme} and I just knew that I wouldn't feel comfortable wearing it out.  I probably would have kept it to wear at home now and on maternity leave, but for $88 I knew I could do better for "lounge wear" so I sadly passed.   Sort of regretting this one now as it was so comfy, but oh well!

Verdict:  Sad pass

Market & Spruce Lace Trim Maternity Knit Top, $58

Unlike most everything else in my box that was just a little snug, this top was actually too big on me.  It was a loose, flowy top that would look great with jeans, but the arms were huge on me.  For what it was, I also don't think it's worth the $58 price tag.

Verdict:  Easy pass

FINAL THOUGHTS ::   Although I didn't keep anything, I still love Stitch Fix!  I could tell that my stylist really listened to what I was requesting.  Maxi Dress?  Check!  Transitional Pieces?  Check!  Nursing friendly?  Check!  We can just chalk this one up to being really hard to know sizing - especially when pregnant!  If you don't keep anything in your box, you typically lose the $20 styling fee, but since I had credits I didn't pay anything for this box.

I will continue to receive Stitch Fix boxes, but plan to wait until after the baby comes and I'm itching for a few new pieces.  Maybe right before I return back to work from maternity leave.

Check back next week to The Perfect Catch Blog when I talk about another Maternity Clothing site that I tried...this one was a winner with three pieces that are perfect for my third trimester!

If you want to give Stitch Fix a try, you can use my referral link here to sign-up.
Note that I will receive a $25 credit if you sign-up.  Hopefully then someone will do the same for you...it's like subscription box karma!

Stitch Fix Review #5 :: Maternity Edition!

I just received my 5th Stitch Fix Box, but this time requested maternity items!  I was super pumped to see what the new Maternity Stitch Fix was all about and I was pleasantly surprised.

You can read my other Stitch Fix experiences below:

Box #3 - Epic fail...I still need to post this one!
Box #4

So what did I receive and keep?

ONE :: Stitch Fix Brand 3-Pack Maternity Cami, $44.00 - SENT BACK
Love the idea of sending this long length cami set as part of the maternity box, however these are "one size fits most" and I did not fall into the "most" category - at least not comfortably.  Would be perfect for a size XS, S or maybe a M person.  Love the colors, stretch and length, but these just didn't work because of the sizing.  They were skin tight on me, plus I already have a brand of camis I own and love in multiple colors.

TWO :: Mavi Freida Maternity Jean, $98.00 - SENT BACK
Again, a great maternity jean is a staple in any pregnant gals wardrobe, but I just didn't need these.  I already have and love several pairs from Gap that fit me better {and were cheaper} so this item was an easy pass for me.  Thank goodness since $98 seems steep for maternity jeans.  Also note that these are full panel which I find gets way too hot for the summer.  I prefer demi-panel items.  Let that belly breathe!

THREE :: Gilli Alina Printed Maxi Skirt, $58.00 - KEPT
In my note to my stylist I requested a maternity maxi dress.  While my stylist didn't come through on a dress, she sent this maxi skirt which is the next best thing...maybe better since I don't currently have a maxi skirt.  While it might not be the most flattering piece of maternity clothing to my body, it's cool, so comfortable and I love the colors!  This is a must keep and because of the great stretch, will grow with me!  I can see myself dressing it up for church or dressing it down lounging around the house or running errands.   In the pictures, I just paired the skirt with this v-neck black maternity tee I already owned.

In the picture on the right, I tied the skirt in a knot (as suggested on the Stitch Fix Facebook Page) to help with the length and give it a fresh twist!

FOUR :: Pale Sky Lottie Pleated Maternity Blouse, $68.00 - KEPT
Love this top {don't mind the wrinkles, it just came out of the box}!  Love the color and I don't have anything in my {maternity} closet this color.  It has a perfect, long length and is very breezy and light for the summer.  I can easily dress it up or down for work or play.  So while I think $68 is highway robbery for a top of this quality, I went ahead and kept it knowing that it will get lots of wear...that is where Stitch Fix gets you.  Even if you think the price is a little much, you already have it in your closet just waiting to be worn so it's hard to say no!

I plan to wear with some neon yellow pieces {here} I already own for a fun, weekend look!

FIVE  :: Papermoon Bankside Split Neck Tunic, $64.00 - SENT BACK
I like the idea of this tunic.  Very earthy and bohemian and I think on the right person it would be really beautiful for some outdoor maternity pics, however it just wasn't working for me.  The long sleeves are not going to work in this Houston heat and the maternity wasn't very breathable.  There was no stretch either so it wouldn't grow with me in the coming months.  Easy pass.

FINAL THOUGHTS ::  I am very happy with my first maternity Stitch Fix.  My hope was that I'd end up with at least one item that I loved so to end up with two that I know I will wear a lot this summer is great!  I highly recommend at least giving Stitch Fix a try.  All you have to lose is $20, but the experience is so fun.  With most of my boxes I ended up keeping at least one item, so then you don't lose that $20 styling fee.  Please let me know if you have any questions about the service.  I do recommend adding as many notes as you can to your stylist in order to get a box that you will love.

Stitch Fix Review #4

It's time for another Stitch Fix review!  You can read my other reviews here and here.

I scheduled this fix for mid March since I had a credit to the shop from my referral link!  You may remember in my last Stitch Fix review I was disappointed in the service and said I might not do again...well, those credits were calling my name and so was my desire for a few new transitional pieces to carry me into spring.  I made some notes to my stylist and hoped for the best!

So what did I receive and keep?
{And yes, I tried on the tops with Lululemon leggings.  These were taken on a Friday night and I was way too tired to change into better pants.  Sorry, not sorry}

ONE :: Mystree Braden Sweater, $68.00 - SENT BACK
Loved the sweater.  Didn't keep because it is about to be too hot to wear in Houston.

TWO :: Kensie Rebekah Contrast Detail Blazer, $88.00 - SENT BACK
Loved the blazer and the color.  Wanted to keep, but it had a stain on it.  For $88 I didn't want to try and get the stain out myself!

THREE :: Fun2Fun Sheridan Striped V-Neck Tab Sleeve Blouse, $48.00 - SENT BACK
Liked the top.  The fit was okay and it just seemed a little cheap for fifty bucks.

THREE :: Pixley Ohara Faux Wrap Tie-Waist Dress, $68.00 - SENT BACK
FOUR ::  Pixley Kathy Striped Fit & Flare Dress, $68.00 - SENT BACK
Loved the style and color of both of these dresses, but they simply didn't fit.  #fatgirlproblems

FINAL THOUGHTS :: Even though it seems that I didn't like my pieces since I sent it all back, I was actually pleased with what was sent to me.  I could tell that the stylist actually listened to my requests and viewed my Stitch Fix Style Pinboard.  I asked for stripes, a blazer, neutrals and items that could be worn to the office and on the weekend. She did all of these things for me!  I wasn't too upset to send it all back since I didn't actually lose my $20 styling fee since I had credit.

I would have purchased the blazer if it didn't have the stain.  I also would have purchased the sweater if it weren't for the fact that it's about to get very hot in Houston.

I would definitely do Stitch Fix again in the future.  Did you hear that they now offer Maternity and Petite styling too? I would have loved this service when I was pregnant!!!

My Latest Stitch Fix Review

Last week I received my 2nd Stitch Fix Box.  If you remember from my first Stitch Fix review, I was pretty happy with it even though I only kept one item.  I liked everything, but was looking for more fall pieces.  I will say that the one top that I did keep has been on heavy rotation in my closet so it was money well spent** (see my last comment below)

If you aren't familiar with Stitch Fix: It is a styling service that sends you 5 pieces of clothing and/or accessories pulled specifically for you.

After my first box I added more notes to my stylist that said:
  • Even though it's still warm in Texas (as they mentioned in my last note) I still wanted more fall pieces like transitional sweaters, jackets and tops.  No sleeveless.
  • Please no pants unless they are leggings or a ponte knit pant
  • An occasional dress for work is great
  • No jewelry except for an occasional statement necklace
I was really excited to get some sweaters or cute fall tops that I've been seeing in other Stitch Fix reviews.  See the latest review from Jennifer of Life in the Green House here on her great and very seasonably appropriate box.  I'm jealous!

Whomp, whomp...

To say I was disappointed was an understatement.  I think I wasted my time writing the notes to "my stylist" because she did not follow them.  Although to look on the bright side, this is No-Spend October so maybe the universe was just looking out for me...

ONE - Cliff Layered Bead & Fringe Collar Necklace, $32 - SENT BACK

This necklace is cute, but not $32 cute.  It is pretty cheap looking in person and I just know that when it comes time to accessorize an outfit, I will opt for something nicer that I already own like my fave Kendra Scott Rayne necklace.  I don't like the length of the chain and for the final straw it has a strange smell to it!  It's similar to some necklaces I used to purchase from Jane.com for $12.99.

TWO - Brodee Envelope Collar Sheath Dress, $128 - SENT BACK

This is a cute dress at first glance.  It did not fit me, but even if it had fit me I would not have paid $128 for it.  The material is cheap.  You would probably find this at a department store in the Juniors Section for under $75.  I know that I can find a dress that is much higher quality for this price or less.  Now I'm just being picky, but the tag said it was Dark Gray, but it looks chocolate brown.  Confusing!

THREE - Esten Button-Up Sleeveless Blouse - Navy, $54 - SENT BACK

This top fit and was cute, however as I stated in my notes I did not want sleeveless tops.  I'm covered in that area and do not need another...especially for $54!

FOUR - Filbert 3/4 Sleeve Popover Blouse, $58 - KEPT

This was my favorite of the five pieces.  Hallelujah, the stylist listened and gave me something that was transitional for the fall and appropriate for both office and weekend.  I hesitated at keeping this because I already own a super similar top from Nordstrom, however I live in black tops especially in the fall/winter.  The back of the sleeves on this top are unique (I could not get a good picture) and I love the longer length which is hard to find.

FIVE - Tiara Abstract Print Silk Top, $58 - SENT BACK

I don't know what to say about this top.  It reminds me of something I would buy at Forever 21 for $15, but what makes me most mad about this is how summery it is!!!  The styling card even has it paired with shorts and sandals.  While this would be great for a May box, it is October!!!  Once again, I feel like they threw in all of the items they were trying to get rid of from last season.

FINAL THOUGHTS

I honestly feel like I was just given some random pieces that they had left, aside from the one top I kept that was in line with what I asked for.  Maybe for larger sizes they don't have as many options?  Regardless, I was probably going to put this service on hold for a few months through the holidays.  This box just sealed that deal!

I will give Stitch Fix the benefit of the doubt and say that maybe this was just an inexperienced stylist.  My requests were not listened to and my note from the stylist did not even make sense with incomplete sentences and thoughts.  This was not the same stylist as I had in my last box.

It is really fun anticipate the box and wonder what you might receive, but after this box my opinion is that it is cheap, overpriced pieces.  I think I can do better shopping on my own.  And by "on my own" I mean with the help of great bloggers like Sheaffer and Melanie...their suggestions are always spot on!

On the other hand, I have read some amazing reviews and seen some great pieces on others from Stitch Fix.  After the holidays if I continue to read other great reviews, I may give it another shot!

If you want to give StitchFix a shot yourself, you can sign up here.  Maybe you'll have better luck!
Note that I will receive a $25 credit if you sign-up. Hopefully then someone will do the same for you...it's like subscription box karma!

**After I scheduled this post yesterday, I was hanging up all of my delicates in the laundry room and noticed that the only top that I kept from my last Stitch Fix is ripped.  I have worn this top about 4 times and washed it 2-3 times (delicate cycle, no dryer).  I expect this to happen with Forever 21 and Old Navy pieces (although it doesn't), but not on something I paid $48 for!  Ugh.  This just further confirms what I thinking.  Stitch Fix - if you are reading this.  I LOVE your business concept, but have some concerns.  If I continue reading other great reviews I may consider giving you another shot.

Five on Friday: Stitch Fix Review

My very first Stitch Fix box was delivered a few weeks ago and I wanted to share my experience with you.

I signed up out of curiosity!  A few of my friends had good experiences and I've read a handful of blogger reviews.  The great thing is you choose when you get your next one - next month or never.  You are not committed to anything.  I was also impressed with how easy it was to return the items.  You can literally just drop it in the mail.  They give you a return bag with label for all of it.

I made a few notes to my stylist saying that I like pieces that can be dressed up or down - work or weekend.  I also requested no jewelry since I have that more than covered at home.

I ended up only keeping one item, but I really loved everything I received and was surprised at how well most of it fit.  4 out of 5 ain't bad for this curvy girl!

Your box includes 5 Items, Styling cards with suggestions on how to wear each piece, personalized note from your stylist and a return bag with shipping label

So the FIVE items I received are below:

ONE - Joshua Colored Ankle Jean, $64 - SENT BACK

The first item I received was a cute pair of colored ankle jeans in cobalt blue.  Loved them, but unfortunately I could not even get them halfway up my fat curvy thighs to take a picture.  Needless to say for future boxes, I told them no pants unless it's a stretchy ponte knit or legging.  I need to just stick to my "curvy" fits at Loft.

TWO - Tessa Chevron Print Sleeveless Blouse, $48 - KEPT

Dork Alert: I'm posing with my purse to see what it would look like when I'm on the go (anyone else do this) and I look like I'm about to do "the perfect cheer."  Fashion blogger I am not!

Although I don't think this top was worth the $48 price tag, it looked good, matched a ton of my jewelry and could be dressed up or down.  Plus I didn't want to lose my $20 styling fee.  I actually wore it the very next day that I received it and have worn it several more times since.  I pair it with a blazer for work, wear it by itself at home, but also plan to add a cardigan when it gets cooler so it's a good transition piece.

THREE - Dorina Crew Neck Lace Panel Blouse, $48 - SENT BACK

This top was cute and fit pretty good, but was too summery for a late August purchase.  It was also a little sheer, but would be ruined with a camisole.

FOUR - Colibri Abstract Print Sleeveless Top, $54 - SENT BACK

I really liked this top and it fit great, but once again, I wasn't interested in another sleeveless top this late in the summer.  I know that is ridiculous since Houston will be hot through Thanksgiving, but I still like to dress for the fall regardless of the temps.  If I would have received this in early summer, I probably would have kept.

FIVE - Jaclynn 3/4 Sleeve Button-Up Cardigan, $38 - SENT BACK

I liked the idea of this fun pop of color for a cardi, but after looking through my closet I didn't have much to wear with it and the fit was just okay.  Loved the price, but just felt I could do better in terms of fit and looks.  I think longer sweaters look better to lengthen my short, curvy frame, rather than cutting my body in half.

Final Thoughts - This is a really fun service.  I wouldn't rely on it for all of my wardrobe needs, but it is fun to discover new items or step out of your comfort zone.  I think the anticipation is the best part!  I have my second box arriving at the beginning of October and then plan to put a hold on it through the holidays so I can focus my spending on gifts for others.  Based on how this next box goes, we will see if I'm even interested in using this again next year.  If I do continue I will be sure and provide more details in my comments on what works for my body.

If you want to give Stitch Fix a try, you can use my referral link here to sign-up.
Note that I will receive a $25 credit if you sign-up.  Hopefully then someone will do the same for you...it's like subscription box karma!

Last, while I was trying on my Stitch Fix pieces I also made an outfit for this great kimono piece that my original stylist - Shelley (my mom) picked out for me a few weeks ago.  She is the best when it comes to dressing me and yes, I'm 31 and my mom still picks out clothes for me!
