Just a thought...

This past week I had an orientation meeting with a popular volunteer organization.  I am really exctited to be working with this group and giving back to the community while also meeting new people, but I couldn't help but notice a few things that I thought were worth sharing.  Not criticisms, just food for thought...

-  Over 150 people were there giving up thier valuable time to "give back" to the community, but if each woman would have just turned in her handbag or the money it cost, we could have easily raised between $50,000 - $100,000 (based on the Chelsea Purifoy Purse Math Equation).  Again, not criticizing, because I was one of the attendees with a designer handbag attached to her arm.

-  Simiarly, if each attendee would have used the time it took to pick out thier stunning outfits, we could have already put in hours worth of volunteer work.

Volunteerism or joining a "scene"...not sure which one I am involved in yet.  Maybe both.

Happy Birthday Jason!

Today is my husband's 32nd birthday!

We celebrated all weekend long.  On Friday night we had sushi at Ra and browsed Anthropologie...I know that sounds more for me, but we went to buy Jason's favorite candle

Saturday Jason golfed in a tournament all day and then I took him to the Rainbow Lodge for dinner.  The food was wonderful and the cabin was so cool and so Jason...very rustic and lots of animal heads on the wall.  One of Jason's fave desserts is banana pudding and they have banana pudding sliders which is banana pudding in the middle of 2 peanut butter cookies...yum!

Jason opening his gifts...he was very excited to get a Jon Hart shotgun case.

Sunday I had to work, but we ended the day with another birthday dinner for Jason with my parents at Salt Grass Steakhouse.

Happy Birthday Jason!!!  I love you!

Recommended Reads

It is no secret that I am a huge fan of chick lit.  I work so hard during the day, it is nice to come home and get lost in a mindless book.  I also love non-fiction female authors that write about their own life experiences: sometimes funny, sometimes sad, but always honest.  Girl power yes...I was a women's studies minor.  Here is where my husband rolls his eyes and calls me a crazy feminist...why yes, I proudly am.  I am finishing up Kelly Cutrone's new book, If You Have to Cry Go Outside.

Two other books that I can't wait to crack open are Jennifer Love Hewitt's new tell-all, The Day I Shot Cupid about her past relationships and Chelsea Handler's latest, Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang.  I will write full reports on each as I finish.  For all of your Houstonians, Chelsea is doing a book signing on April 23 at 3pm at the Blue Willow Bookshop at Memorial & Dairy Ashford.

Another similar author who I love is Jenn Lancaster.  She has a new book coming out on May 4 called My Fair Lazy: One Reality Television Addict's Attempt to Discover if Not Being A Dumb Ass Is the New Black, or, a Culture-Up Manifesto.  She is hilarious and my absolute fave.  I am super excited to attend her book signing on May 6 at the Borders on Kirby in Houston.

Purchase these books at Amazon now below.  Happy Reading!

Laura & Craig's Wedding

Jason and I went to Fort Worth, TX last weekend for a wedding!  Laura is a great friend of mine from college.  We are sorority sisters and pledged the same year together.  We've been through a lot together to say the least.  I was so happy to hear when she found her perfect man...they are both high school coaches!

Their wedding was beautiful, perfect and so Laura!

They got married outside on a golf course of the DFW Marriott Hotel & Golf Center at Champions Circle.  The day could not have been more beautiful.  Laura walked down the aisle to a Sara McClauglin song.  Laura and Craig are HUGE U2 fans so they incorporated lyrics from a U2 song into thier vows...made me cry!  They even exited the ceremony with U2's Beautiful Day playing!

The Grooms Cake...how cool!  The "stadium peple" were sprinkles.  Red Velvet too!

There was a bit of a rivalry going on throughout the reception, including the singing of both school songs.

Such a cute (and yummy) favor...volleyball and basketball cookies...remember they are both coaches!

Me, Laura, and Kelly (another Pi Phi Pledge Sister)

Congrats Laura and Craig!  Jason and I were so happy and honored to be apart of your big day.

Valentine's Day 2010

Blog warning: this post might make you gag...you've been warned!

I'm a little behind on posting about Valentine's Day, but I wanted to share!  Jason and I went to dinner at Vargo's, the restaurant where our wedding and reception was!  We hadn't been back since our wedding day in May so I was very excited.  Coincidentally, we also celebrated our first Valentine's Day there in 2008.  I used to literally live across the street from Vargo's so I really miss seeing my "buddies," (Vargos's has a huge garden that is home to tons of peacocks.  I have also been lucky enough to see possuums, raccoons, snakes, lizards, ducks, geese, and swans).

The sappy, gag part is coming...

We we arrived, Jason surprised me by reserving the best table in the place by the huge window so we could watch the water and look for animals.  This was also the spot where our "sweetheart" table was at our wedding.  He also had a huge bouquet of red roses waiting for me.

We had the most amazing dinner with great food, wine, and yummy dessert!  We were stuffed so we went for a long walk across our bridge to the gazebo where we said our vows.

We were lucky that evening and saw peacocks, swans, ducks and a roaming possuum!

It was the best Valentine's Day I've ever had.  Love you J!

Here we are at our wedding in the lobby...

And back 9 months later...wow, this picture really points out that I am pastey white!

Our grand exit at the wedding...

And 2010...
