Fat Face

If you read my blog regularly, you know that I struggle with my weight. I'm about 20 pounds lighter today than I was this time last year. On a girl that is barely 5'4'', those 20 pounds make a big difference. It's funny because this time last year, I knew I was heavier than I wanted or needed to be, but I didn't think it was that bad.

Oh yes it was! Jason and I were looking through pictures from our Costa Rica trip (May 2010) and I was SHOCKED out how big I looked. I had major "love" handles going on and I had HUGE tree trunk legs. Even Jason, who always compliments and reassures me, was shocked at how different my legs look today versus the vacation pictures...which I will be burning later today. I even got a compliment the other day, from someone other than my mom or husband, that my legs looked toner.

When I am heavier, it really shows in my face.  Look at these pictures below take exactly 1 year apart. Maybe it's just me being obsessive, but I think my face looks a lot thinner today. Yes, it makes me feel good, but it also makes me cringe at how horrible I used to look! Oh and my hair is a lot longer...score! Although lately I've been wanting to cut it...

Weekend Recap

Friday
Jason and I went to see Chelsea Handler and friends (Heather, Brad and Josh) at Verizon!  It was so much fun.  Jason was a good sport for going since 90% of the audience was women.  We didn't stand in line afterwards to get a book signed because the majority of these women were DRUNK and annoying.  I could barely stand the line in the bathroom, much less a long meet and greet line.  Afterwards, we got to have drinks with my brother Carter and his girlfriend, Amanda who were also at the show.  It was great to spend time with them!

Saturday
Pool time - perfection!

Sunday
More pool time, followed by my first trip to Costco.  Jason recently bought us a membership since we live right by a Costco.  I had never been to a warehouse store before and was excited to see what deals we could get.  Lots of deals...only problem is that we don't have the room to store stuff in bulk.  We came out pretty good and bought things like paper towels, soap and nutrigrain bars (I eat a lot of those!).

Weekend Recap

Friday
Friday night Jason had a work event so I got a pedicure after work, had Chipotle for dinner (Jason hates this place) and rented Blue Valentine.  Good movie-very heavy.

Saturday
Saturday I had lunch with my fellow Saturday tea room waitresses to celebrate the end of our provisional year and volunteer waitressing!  We are so lucky to have met each other this year.  They are a great group of women and we all get along great.  We had so much fun Saturday being the ones getting served orange rolls and mimosas!

The rest of the day, Jason and I were very lazy.  He had a crazy week and just wanted some down time.  I finally watched Black Swan.  I really liked it and didn't think it was a strange and dark as others have said...probably because I watch so many horror movies.  Nothing shocks me anymore.

Sunday
I went over to my dad's house to celebrate his birthday (last weekend) and Father's Day (next weekend).  We had so much fun laying out by the pool, playing with the dogs and eating.

Hope you had a great weekend!  Have a great week.

Favorite Things

Meet my favorite pair of shoes, Peggyfo, by Nine West.  I first found them in nude at DSW, fell in love and ordered them online in black.  They are so comfortable, go with everything and are nice enough for the office. Plus the peep toe makes them cooler than regular pumps.

They are $79.00 online at Nine West in a few colors (the "Gray Reptile" is on sale right now for $47.40), but the awesome nude color I have isn't listed.  Try DSW.

Meet Buddy

This is Buddy, my mom's new dog!  He is the sweetest dog, about 3 years old and some type of schnauzer mix we think.  Welcome to the fam Buddy!  I can't wait for Tucker to meet you.  I'm sure that meeting will deserve a whole separate blog post.

Weekend Recap

Friday
We were pooped from the week (a typical Friday feeling) so we just grabbed a bite down the street and headed home to chill. I had my head in a new book, The First Husband by Laura Dave, the rest of the evening.

Saturday
I had a haircut and added some beautiful blond highlights for the summer, while Jason did some stuff 'round the house. More reading Saturday afternoon. Saturday evening we had reservations at Post Oak Grill in Sugar Land. My parents gave us a gift certificate there for Christmas that we forgot we had! It was such a treat! Since we really never got around to properly celebrating our 2 Year Wedding Anniversary, Jason told them we were celebrating that when making reservations...

Way to go Jason! They gave us the best table, had rose pedals sprinkled on the table when we arrived and surprised us with one of our favorite desserts, Tres Leches. It was so much fun!

Sunday
I was so excited to spend the morning and early afternoon at home.  I didn't have anywhere to go so I was able to read, clean, do laundry and relax!  It was so nice.  I finished The First Husband and started the third and final book of The Hunger Games trilogy, Mockingjay

We also had tickets for Houston's Free Press Summerfest, a two-day music festival at Eleanor Tinsley park.  We skipped out on Saturday's shows.  We weren't jazzed by any of the bands and it was HOT outside.  Sunday afternoon we headed out there, mostly to see Weezer at 8:30, but we got there around 5ish.

Call us old, call us boring, call us lame, but we were so not prepared for what was Summerfest.

It smelled HORRIBLE.
Everyone there smelled because they were sweaty and gross from baking all day in the 100 degree heat, There was trash EVERYWHERE.
We walked around, grabbed a cold beverage and found our spot on the hill, pretty typical.  But this was not your normal hill, it was so steep which made sitting very uncomfortable...
then the ants started...
then the thunder and lightning started...
then the rain started...
then the dread of the inevitable port-a-potty trips started...
And we still had hours until Weezer...
I'm ashamed to say it, but we left before seeing my beloved Weezer!

My judgement was clouded by the stink.  I'm feeling a little regretful today, but I've seen them plenty of times and promised myself next time they are in Houston, we will go.
Summerfest...and yes, that's a huge butt crack.  Sorry- that was our view!
2 Tickets to Summerfest: $100.00
Parking at Summerfest:  $10.00
2 Beers at Summerfest:  $9.00
Not having to use a Summerfest Restroom:  Priceless

Define Body & Mind

Last week I tried Define Body & Mind, described as "Houston's barre exercise studio."  The concept is a barre exercise class combining pilates, yoga, barre work, and core strengthening.  Please don't think it's for sissy's because it is HARD!  It's a great addition to my current workout routine of cardio-based classes at my local gym.

I dragged Ashley with me because it's so much easier to try something new with a friend.  We had no idea what to expect, but could barely walk down the stairs afterwards.  The class is only an hour, but we worked arms, legs, butt, abs...everything!  We had another great class last night.

We bought 5 sessions through Houston Tidbits, but I've noticed similar online deals on other sites so keep your eyes peeled if you want to try the classes without a huge investment.  I'm hooked already!
