Star Spangled Kids

I definitely have not taken formal pictures of Jack sporting his red, white and blue duds, but when I saw this fun Link-Up hosted by Kristy, Vanessa, Natalie, Erin and Liz, I knew I had enough pics in my iPhone to participate!  We love red, white and blue in our house - especially being from good 'ole Texas!  

Just by scrolling my phone, I realized we may have a red, white and blue problem, but that's okay.  It's classic and makes for great mix and match throughout the summer!

Jack wore this outfit yesterday on our trip home from Colorado.  It looked nice, but is so comfy for him...I knew he needed comfort for a long day of car rides and flying.  Look at those rosy cheeks!

You Sit On a Throne of Lies :: Easter Edition

If you follow me on Facebook, this is old news, but it is too crazy not to share.  Yesterday afternoon around 4:30 I took Jack to see the Easter Bunny at our local mall...nice suburban mall.  It was daylight and early and I was excited to beat the bunny crowds on the weekend.  

Jack loved meeting the Easter Bunny giving him lots of high fives until it was time to actually sit on his lap.  Then it was tear city.  That's okay, it was quick and painless, we paid and went on our way.  I loaded Jack up in his stroller, did a quick trip to Bath & Body Works which is just a few feet away from the Easter Bunny and as we were walking out we stopped one more time to wave goodbye to the bunny.  

That's when we start seeing people running to all of the exits.  At first I just saw one family running out and thought they were just being silly.  That was until the dad looked at me with a crying kid slung over his shoulder and said, MOVE IT - HE HAS A GUN!

I pushed that stroller so fast and ran in my heels faster than I've ever run before.  Luckily we weren't far from the exit we needed to get right to our car.  Even once we were in the parking lot, I wanted to get as far away from the mall as possible just in case they came running out the same exit.  I've never thrown the stroller in the car so fast or buckled Jack in his seat so swiftly.  I'm proud of myself for staying calm though - I don't think Jack even noticed anything weird was going on. But I am kinda ticked at the people in the car next to me just watching as I frantically got everything in.  They knew what was going on, but seemed to be enjoying the show. 

By the time we were driving away, cops were just starting to pull up to the mall.  According the news, it was a two man "smash and grab."  They both had on masks and one had a gun.  No shots were fired and no one was hurt.  I think they got away too.  

The jewelry store that was hit was just across the aisle from where the Easter Bunny was setup.  I could have easily walked in that direction with Jack and almost did when I remembered that I needed to stop at Macy's for some beauty products.  Thank God I was too lazy!  We would have been even closer if I would have made that choice.  

I know you shouldn't live in fear, but I've decided to stay away from the malls when I'm by myself with Jack.  The scariest part of the whole ordeal was that Jack was with me.  All I wanted to do was get him to safety.  There have been too many crazies out there who don't care that it's daylight and there are tons of people around.

At least we are left with some gorgeous pictures of Jack with the Easter Bunny (sarcasm)...

And I promise I wasn't trying to torture my son!  He loved seeing the Easter Bunny last year...here is proof!

Spring Has Sprung

Happy Monday!  Who else is enjoying this weather lately?  We spent the majority of the weekend outside and all loved it.  I'm excited to get our yard looking pretty again.

About two weeks ago we took Jack for some "Easter photos" with Amanda of Mommas Gonna Snap {same photographer who took the recent Houston Moms Blog Headshots}.  We love Amanda and she works great with Jack who happened to be super cranky that day for pictures.

I was about to throw in the towel, but Amanda just knew it would happen and patiently kept trying different things until voila!

Easter Basket Goodies for a Toddler

It's that time of year again to start pulling together a few goodies for your little one's Easter Basket from good 'ole Peter Cottontail.

This year we are using the same basket from Pottery Barn Kids {which I plan to do for many years to come}.  This year I didn't want to spend a huge amount of money filling it and he is definitely not getting candy quite yet {his toddler tantrums do not need extra sugar}. 

I had great luck at the Dollar Spot at Target with some Easter themed goodies I know he will love including some duck shaped bubbles, egg chalk and a Peter Rabbit Coloring Book.  How can you beat $1!

Five on Friday :: Gearing up for Valentine's Day

If you are having withdrawals from taking down your Christmas Tree and twinkling lights, have no fear!  Valentine's Day is right around the corner and you can channel your festiveness to all things hearts and arrows, pink and red and lovey dovey. 

As a single gal, I dreaded this day, but as a wife and now mom it's pretty fun.  Jason and I don't do gifts or anything - trust me, I think it's a dumb, commercialized holiday, but I've really come to love embracing each and every holiday.  I mostly just love a good reason to decorate the house and wear something fun!

Here are five ways to gear up for VDay...and each item is $50 or less!  I don't know about you, but after Christmas gifting I just can't spend a lot of dough on holiday items.

What To Wear on Christmas

I'm in full on packing mode right now {in my head - I'm currently at the office} which means I have to make decisions on what I want to wear on Christmas now rather than spur of the moment based on my mood...yet another reason why I hate packing. 

If you are like me, I like to be a little festive, a lotta comfortable and 100% picture worthy.  That's sort of a tall order. 

Pinterest Told Me To posted some great ideas yesterday.  I've already decided that I'm doing the "Blardigan" outfit on our travel home day since it's supposed to be cold and rainy.  I wore that exact outfit last week on a rainy day and it was perfection. 

What do you typically wear on Christmas Day?  Is your family more formal or extra relaxed? 


Option #1 - Dress and Tights with boots and scarf
Not festive or super functional since I'll likely be on the floor a lot with Jack, but super comfy.  To me, dresses are often more comfortable (and forgiving) than jeans or pants. 




Option #2 - {Inspired by PTMT}  Jeans, Boots, Blanket Scarf and Loft Tunic Sweater
Very cozy and somewhat festive.  The blanket scarf will coordinate well with what Jason and Jack are wearing...although we would be officially deemed "the plaid family"




I think I'd personally feel better in Option #1, but like the idea of being festive and matchy with my family in Option #2.

As always, Jack has a closet full of holiday PJ's, but I've done a terrible job of taking pictures as he is wearing them.  Something tells me he will be sporting these all winter - even after the holidays!

You Sit On A Throne of Lies

Jack visited Santa last weekend...and it was not pretty.  Luckily we had an appointment so no lines, no waiting and the entire thing took less than a minute.  As soon as I picked him up from Santa's lap he was happy again, even blowing Santa kisses goodbye.  He is such a sweet boy.  He just gets a little scared, but really, who wouldn't!  It's a super weird custom we have to sit our child on a stranger's lap and expect them to pose for pictures.

Jingle Jammies 2014

It's the sign of a good weekend when you have no pictures to show for it!  We were too busy in the moment to stop and take pictures.  So today I'm doing a quick weekend recap and then on to some family pics!

 

Friday we visited my grandmother's assisted living home for their Christmas Party.  Grammy had organized a performance and was playing the piano and my mom joined the crew to sing carols for the party.  Jack loved hearing the songs and sneaking a few cookies before dinner.

 

On Saturday we were sad to miss a friend's birthday party, but Jack's health is my #1 priority right now, so we opted to let him sleep in instead.  We headed to have some pictures with Santa at a cute shop in Tomball (same Santa as last year), had lunch with Pops and KK and then headed up to Conroe to see my BFF and her family who were in town for the weekend. 

 

We ended up staying at the resort in Conroe that Jason used to work for so it was fun to see what has changed.  Jack loved every minute of it and I'm so thankful he is feeling better.  Special thanks to my mom and LE for keeping Tucker for us!  On Sunday we finally got our tree up (complete with hot chocolate and Elf) and watched the Texans win.  I even snuck in a long nap!

Now onto some family pictures!  We participated in "Jingle Jammies" again this year with our family photographer Maca of Studio Ainsley.  I had grand plans of getting us all matching PJ's again like last year, but then Jack's little leg break happened.  Jack rocked some cute PJ's and Jason and I just jumped in for a quick photo to use for Christmas cards.  The backdrop was Maca's amazing backyard complete with deer running around behind us.  Jack was in heaven!

 

It's hard to top last year's, but a bright red cast on this sweet face just might do it.
