Calling All Moms: Diaper Genie vs. Arm & Hammer

I promise this blog will not turn into a 100% Mommy Blog, however, that is what I'm going through now so you have to expect some of it.  I'm starting to tackle registering for Baby Jack.  Just the thought of all of the things we need makes my stomach turn in knots.  The hardest part is the shear number of options.  It's usually nice to have options, however in this case it is just too overwhelming.

With that said, I've been heavily relying on friends and family with babies to help recommend products that have worked for them and now I'm calling on you!

Today's question is which diaper pail is better...

The Diaper Genie or the Arm & Hammer?  I've read a TON of conflicting reviews which leads me to believe that both are probably great, but since I can choose only one, which do you prefer?  Prices seem to be fairly comparable.

Thanks and if you are tackling similar questions, I promise to report back the responses I get for you on this and other products I'm researching.

I have a feeling this will be a weekly post on The Perfect Catch!

Love,
Chelsea

  2. I forget the name of ours but we have one that doesn't require special bags because I didn't want to spend the extra money. A diaper pail is going to smell terrible regardless. I just keep a little candle on a high shelf in Natalie's room and light it right after we empty the pail.

    1. Good tip...thanks Laura! I think we are actually going to look into one like you that doesn't take special bags. I know that would become a pain after awhile. Thank you!!!

  3. We opted for neither. I heard too many horror stories about the smell. We bought the lightly scented bags from babies r us. I think we got 200 for around $9. We kept one on the edge of the changing table. Wet diapers stayed in the bag til it was full (usually held 3-5 when they were tiny) and we just threw the full bag away at the end of the night into our regular trash in the garage. Dirty diapers were tied up immediately and put outside. It worked great. Inexpensive, easy and never a smell in our babies room!

    1. Thanks Staci! I've actually talked to so many people that like you just opted to throw them away in teh regular trash, but take it out regularly. Like someone else mentioned, no matter what you put them in its still a smelly, dirty diaper! Thanks for the help!

  5. Can I make your decision harder? :) I'm obsessed with our Ubbi diaper pail. It's pricier than the other 2 but it takes regular trash bags, so you'll save a lot of money in the long run. You seriously can't smell a thing in Arden's room and it's big enough that we don't have to change it very often. Hope that helps! http://ubbiworld.com/shop_diaper_pail.php

    1. Thanks Vanessa! You did make my decision harder, but in a very good way because I think we are going with the Ubbi now! I love the way it looks and the fact that you can use regular trash bags. It has awesome reviews. Plus I really love the one that comes in grey! You are the best!!! I have been stalking your blog for your other product reviews too...thanks so much for all of the helpful information. Hope to see you soon! Kisses to Arden.

    1. Hey Sarah! Yes, we went with the Ubbi. The reviews were great plus my friend with a little one raved about it. Obviously we don't know from actual experience yet, but we already ordered it and have it in the nursery. Based on looks alone, we love it! They do have great color choices and I liked that you can use any trash can liner! We went with the gray. Good luck registering this weekend...how fun! I found this website super helpful. http://www.lucieslist.com/ When you subscribe to it, you receive an email right away with a helpful registry checklist if I remember correctly. Talk soon! Love that pearl onesie by the way!
