Houston Moms Blog :: Delayed Milestones

I'm over at Houston Moms Blog today talking about our experience with delayed milestones and all the fun that comes with it like the snarky comments and worried looks.

Hope to see you there - and please leave a comment on the post if you have experience with this topic!

  1. I read your post and LOVED it. It is very applicable to me as well. My son was late to sit, late to crawl, late to walk. I got TONS of advice (mostly unwanted) from others who were very judgy. Some advice (from friends and family) was helpful, but some people just want to judge and prove that their kid is better. We did take some of the advice and started Mason in OT at 17 months old - right when he was getting the hang of walking. So I'd say he started walking on his own at 17-18 months. But he's 26 months old now and still doesn't talk. He can hear and completely understands, but he doesn't verbalize anything. He's been in speech therapy since March and it's helped a little but not really. He just started preschool at the preschool at the speech place and I think that has helped more. He still doesn't talk but at least he's getting help all the time. I don't know if he is just a late talker and will do it in his own time, but like you, I know the worried comments and looks. Many people have told me that he should be talking by now and then many others told me that their boy kid didn't talk until they were 3 and they were just fine. Either way, we, as moms, know whats best for our kids. Just know that you are doing an amazing job!
