Five on Friday

ONE - Seasons of Caring Luncheon

On Tuesday my mom and stepdad {LE & Shelley} were honored at a luncheon for their work with Carolina Creek Christian Camp that they founded over 14 years ago.  The luncheon was for organized by Interface-Samaritan Counseling Centers who I was excited to learn provides counseling and educational services with a Christian perspective.  It was great to see Mom and LE recognized, but I most enjoyed hearing the keynote speaker, Elizabeth McIngvale-Cegelski {yes Mattress Mac's daughter for all of you locals}.

She discussed her battle with mental illness and how she overcame it with the help of her family, faith and access to professional counselors.

Her speech really touched my heart and spoke to me as both my family and I have dealt with mental illness since I can remember.  I love that Elizabeth is choosing to speak out about her experience rather than hide in shame from it as most do.

TWO - Corsets & Cocktails

Also on Tuesday, I attended Corsets & Cocktails, a Moms Night Out event hosted by Houston Moms Blog at Top Drawer Lingerie.  It was a blast to see all of my fellow contributors and blog friends.

THREE - Sickies

The rest of this week has been a doozie! Jack isn't feeling well and yesterday I woke up with my eye almost swollen shut. I think it's just my body telling me to cool it. And maybe eat some chocolate.  I experienced an important mommy rite of passage the other night when Jack threw up all over me.  I've been pooped on, peed on and spit-up on, but before the other night had dodged vomit.  He made it extra good to make up for lost time.

We've been taking it easy and making time for a little fun at home too.  Aside from some crockpot taco soup for dinner last night, I also made Mix & Match Mama's Chocolate Apple Pecan Cobbler...and yes, I topped it off with some Blue Bell Ice Cream.  So easy and very yummy!

FOUR - Fun Find Alert!

My super-talented friend Alli of Swish Productions is selling these necklaces over at jane.com today only while supplies last {and my beautiful friend Shannon is the model}!  They come in a ton of different colors...my favorite is black & bronze.  Only $12.99!  Get yours now.

The other fun find alert is this scarf from Payless of all places!  Thanks to Mandy for the heads up!  I have seen it in person and it is cute, cute, cute.  On sale now for $9.99.  Can't beat that!  Both colors are great, but I'm personally loving the taupe color.

FIVE - Scarf Swap

You know I couldn't end a blog post without mentioning the Scarf Swap right?  I just wanted to remind everyone that if you haven't heard from your partner by today, please let me know.  I have a couple of people who want in that I can re-match you with.

Also, Sheaffer of Pinterest Told Me To shared some great scarves this week that she discovered.  Her recommendations are never disappointing!

Have a wonderful weekend!  Don't miss Bill Hader on SNL...set that DVR!  It's going to be good.
